In this fast-paced world of nonstop exciting options available to us on just about anything, we seldom have to settle for boredom in our lives. If we don’t like what is on the television, we can change the channel and watch one of the other 499 options. If we can’t tolerate what’s on the local radio station, we can turn on Sirius and choose from thousands of other options. If we don’t enjoy the company of the person we are dating, it’s pretty easy to find another ‘friend’ using social media and make that change. But when it comes to the iron, to the tried and true method of lifting heavy weight to train, things can become boring fast. And when we’re bored, we are less likely to show up! Let’s discuss some ways to instill some new excitement & intensity into our weekly workouts!
Train in a new place
Your gym might be the reason things are feeling a bit stale. Maybe it’s time to travel to a new place to lift! The extra 5 minute drive might be well worth the 60 to 75 minutes of pure training bliss that you experience by hitting the iron in a brand new place. Guest passes usually cost $8 to $10 and can be a great way to evaluate a gym to determine if it has the equipment, layout and people that you prefer.
Train with a buddy
Working out in a gym where you don’t know anyone can be lonely. Those hours of isolation add up. Before long, you’re calling people between sets just because you could use a bit of human interaction. Why not bring a buddy with you to the gym instead? You’ll love having someone to push you past your limits and at the same time, your workouts will be safer. You can go for more reps now, as training until failure won’t result in a broken neck!
Mix up your training days
Instead of starting your week with chest day as usual, why not kick things off with leg day? You’ll quickly discover you are hitting these days fresher, which may lead to greater overall results as well!
Divert paths
You’ve been training to be a bodybuilder your entire adult life, right? So why not take 3 or 4 months and train as if you were a powerlifter? New workouts, new exercises, new diet… every day will be a learning experience and we never get bored when we’re learning something new and exciting!
Enter a show
You want, a goal, you’ve got it! Standing in your posing trunks in front of hundreds of strangers… you aren’t going to get any more pressure and motivation than that! Start with a small local novice show. You’ll be training and eating right nonstop, knowing you wear your results in front of many!
