It can be simple to show up at the gym and throw down a killer leg workout. But hitting the gym 5 times every week, and delivering that kind of intensity, every single time? Now that can be a challenge. Dieting presents the same kind of challenge. We can all eat perfectly for a day. But eating the right combination of protein, carbs, and fats for 365 days each year can be very difficult. Life can be so packed with change and challenges and disruptions. Let’s look at once compromise which can give you body 5/7 of the week for ideal progress, and 2/7 of the week for a bit of a retraction.

Let’s tackle each week on a Monday through Friday basis. For those 5 days, you are going to want to eat to perfection. You will want to nail down every meal, every 3 hours. No more skipping supplements or vitamins – stay consistent 100%. You will train all 5 days. Heavy and hard in the weight room. Gallon of water attached to your hip. And you sleep every night on a schedule. All the while, that light at the end of the tunnel, the weekend in which you get to break this cycle, is never more than 5 days away.

Then, when the weekend arrives, it’s time to relax! You can eat whatever you wish. You can train or just relax. Sleep on any schedule that you like. This is the time to reset your pattern and get back to the cheating ways that keep you sane. Don’t go out of your way to wreck your progress from the week. Perhaps stopping at one piece of cheesecake, instead of inhaling the entire cheesecake, might be your best idea. Plan your cheat meals ahead of time and they will less destructive to your overall progress and goals.

Granted, as you become more and more used to the 5 day habit, you will start to see the weekend isn’t all that different from your weekly schedule. In fact, as you build up your pattern, it might actually become hard to skip meals on Saturday and Sunday. You will actually be HUNGRY every three hours on Saturday if you’ve been eating every 3 hours from Monday through Friday. Before long, aside from a cheat meal or two, you may discover you WANT to eat clean on the weekend because it just makes your body feel better.

Once you get the swing of things and it’s easy, then you can change things up and add Saturday to your pattern. Then it can become six days per week to perfection. Can you handle that?
